HET BEHOUDEN HUIS

The assignment was to create a bibliophile version based on a book I had read. The book I read was “Het behouden huis’ by author Willem Frederik Hermans, a respected dutch writer. I converted this book into a visual and audible experience for collectors and enthusiasts. The result; a special edition book bundled with a hight quality photography art print and a 7 inch vinyl soundtrack.

The contrast between humanity and chaos

The concept behind Het behouden huis, was to create a visual and audible experience based off the concept of chaos in humanity. The author; Willem Frederik Hermans writes about a partisan finding an abandoned house and living in it. He seeks comfort and peace. When this plan threatens to fail, he does everything in his power to keep this place to himself. The book sketches an image of how humanity is capable of doing horrible things for their own good. I visualised this concept through contrast in typography and imagery. I also created a soundtrack based off my experience reading the book
